Solstice24 is a brand new 24 hour run from the Equinox24 team. Based in the fabulous grounds of Belvoir castle in Leicestershire, Solstice24 is a weekend festival of running and will quickly become one of your favourite and must-do events.

You can run as much as you like for 24 hours either solo or in a relay team of up to 8 runners. There are also two 8km/5 mile races (midday and sunset) each with a great medal.

You just need to decide if you want to run solo or with a group of friends. Perfect for running clubs, groups of friends and family or teams of workmates. Enjoy a weekend with your running buddies in a spectacular location.

You will run 5 miles (8km) of mixed terrain, with beautiful woodland trails in unseen areas of the spectacular castle grounds, running past lakes, gardens, statues and spectacular viewpoints. You will also enjoy the longest hours of daylight around the summer solstice and the summer landscape. The run course is different to that of Equinox24 allowing you to enjoy a new challenge at each event – more about the course below.

Your entry fee not only includes up to 24 hours of running on a well signed and marshalled route, it also includes free camping for all runners and spectators, hot showers, toilets and a great event village with food and drink vendors and trade stalls. After 7 years of organising the very successful Equinox24 event, this event is sure to follow in it’s footsteps to become a leading event on the running scene.

The 2 stand-alone 5 mile/8km races – each completing one lap of the course – are a great alternative to the 24hr event. The Midday Run starts with the main race at midday Saturday and the Sunset Run starts at 21:15 to allow you to run through the magnificent sunset (headtorch required). Entry includes a bespoke medal.

Running in an event like Solstice24 is more than just running. You become part of something bigger, spending time with like-minded people sharing a common goal brings a real sense of community, making new friends, supporting and encouraging  each other, having a laugh and pushing your physical limits – there’s nothing better. We help create this atmosphere with a great run course, fantastic organisation, excellent marshals, the best hand-picked food and drink vendors, great on site facilities, an online community, entertainment during the event for adults and kids and through a genuine passion for creating the very best experience for you as we can.

We want you to go home thinking that was the best weekend you’ve had all year!

The brand new run 5mile/8k course is set within the stunning grounds of the Belvoir Castle estste.

Belvoir castle, standing high up on the hill, overlooking 1600 acres of woodland, is a breathtaking backdrop for this epic event.

The course, which sits partly in Leicestershire and partly in Lincolnshire, has varied terrain so you’ll find yourself running past lakes, through wooded areas, up and down hills and round open fields as well as sections on the castle estate roads. Whether you’re running through the night with a head torch or whilst the sun rises, there’s always a change of scenery for you to admire.

The route initially heads up towards the castle, first on the estate road then switching to a steep trail. Once at the top of this trail section you have completed most of the climbing for this lap and you are rewarded by stunning panoramic views of the castle estate and surrounding countryside, with vistas famously designed by Capability Brown, where you can look down over the rest of the course (you will see headlamps bobbing along when it is dark – a fabulous sight!). Running along the wide grassy tree-lined ridge, you are likely to see the resident red kites, buzzards and if you are lucky the local Osprey flying overhead during the day. Next you run down to ‘Frog Hollow’ where you will run past ornamental lakes and through picturesque parkland with magnificent old pine trees and many native tree species and beautiful springtime flowers in bloom (listen out for the native woodpeckers!)

Next the route leads you towards the cricket ground and between two of the lakes you previously viewed from the higher part of the course, where you will complete a short climb up Peacock Hill past the towering peacock monument. This section has great views over the main campground and race HQ towards the castle, especially at night when the castle is illuminated. You then begin heading back towards camp, over the large stone bridge with stunning views over the large lakes (that many of you will know from Equinox24 – listen out for the ducks!) to finish among the supporters in the main camping field.

In June the estate is in full bloom with glorious display of rhododendrons and wildflowers for you to enjoy as you tour the varied landmarks of the estate. Very different from September’s Equinox24 route!

You are treated to countless breathtaking views on the course, from the castle up on the hill (which looks magnificent through the night when it is lit up), the mist rolling over the lower fields, the sun reflecting off the lakes, the surrounding villages – memories that will stick with you forever.

Belvoir Castle – Leicestershire

The aim of the race is to complete as many 5 mile laps as you can (or your team can) in 24 hours.

The race begins with a mass start at midday Saturday and ends midday Sunday. There are very few constraints on how you run so you can customize the race to suit you. We ask you to complete whole laps and, if racing in a team, to never have more than one team member on the course at any one time. Other than that you race how you wish. This makes our race accessible to all abilities – from solo runners who complete 20 laps to team or solo runners who complete 1.

There is no minimum requirement of laps or time spent on the course and no time limit on laps. You can run or walk.

This means that you can race solo and keep running for 24 hours, or if you prefer, take breaks (long or short). You can complete as many laps as you wish.

If you are in a team there is no set order of runners or any requirement to run an equal number laps each. There is no requirement for a team member to be on course at all times. So you can take it in turn to run single laps, run double laps, run in any order, take breaks. You can have one team member who runs one lap and another who runs 5 – what ever suits you and your team. A wrist band is used as a relay baton and passed between team members as they finish/start their laps.

If you have crossed the start line before midday on the Sunday, you can complete the lap you are on.

There is a fantastic atmosphere at this race where everyone is chasing their own unique goals and both runner and spectators are so supportive.

Camping is available for competitors and spectators on Friday, Saturday and Sunday night.

There are great facilities on site including hot showers, toilets, water points, food and drink stalls, bar, trade stalls, merchandise shop, massage, central marquee and children’s activities.

There are areas for caravans/campervans (although if you wish to pitch up a tent next to friends in the caravan area this is fine) and also an area for solo runners to allow them easy access to their tents from the course. The camping in all areas is first come, first served in terms of your pitch.

The atmosphere and location will make this more than just a race and more than just camping. You will go to sleep with the castle illuminated on the hill and wake up to the most glorious sunrise in a simply beautiful location. You cannot fail to be wowed and inspired by your surroundings at Solstice24.

Bell tent hire is also available – see below.

If you don’t fancy pitching up and taking down your own tent and want to be assured of a great spot on the camping field, we can offer camping in fantastic bell tents which will be set up ready for you to lay out your sleeping bag and start enjoying your weekend.

Each bell tent will be set up with memory foam mattresses, rugs, fairy lights, cushions and throws and a small table/crate and lamp. All you will need to bring is your sleeping bag, pillow and any cooking equipment you may need for the weekend. You may also wish to bring camping chairs.

They are available in 3 sizes suitable for up to 4, 6 or 8 people. You will need to book in advance by September 1st depending on availability, and the price is for 3 nights camping (Friday, Saturday and Sunday night): 4 man tent £250, 6 man tent £340, 8 man tent £430.

At full occupancy this works out at around or less than £20pppn.
You can choose to pay in full at the time of booking or pay in two installments, 8 weeks apart. Please see T&Cs before booking. No dogs or smoking allowed in the bell tents.
